How I Practice
Therapy is an opportunity to deepen your understanding and acceptance of yourself. It looks and feels different with each client, because each person has a unique inner world and way of expressing themselves. In my experience, symptoms diminish, emotional distress decreases, and growth continues when clients can talk openly and honestly about their lives and feel their way through their struggles with someone empathetic and emotionally available.
While therapy with me can have structure, it is also largely exploratory — we follow what's alive in the moment, unpacking patterns you might not yet have words for. I'm attentive to the thoughts and beliefs we carry about ourselves and the world because they shape feelings and choices. Broadly, the goal is more awareness and freedom in how you think, feel, and live.
I'm attuned to the way early relationships shape our self conceptions and inform how we relate to others today, creating patterns that keep showing up with partners, friends, family, and colleagues. The relationship between us in therapy becomes a place to identify these patterns directly, and to reflect on the ways we've learned to protect ourselves after being hurt.
We’re composed of many parts and are not just one thing: part of you may be reaching for something new, while another part stays anchored to what's known. When we get to know the parts of us that protect or defend us from pain, we begin to see how they both serve us and limit us. Healing tends to come not from attacking or exiling our wounded or defensive parts, but from building a better relationship between them.
